Letting go

Letting Go

Letting go
is not never hurting
about it anymore -
I am beginning to realize.

I have been crushed
by depression at times
when a memory floats by,
and brings tidal waves of pain.

Simple things, unexpected -
like walking in the snow at midnight,
or holding a baby,
or the turn of a head,
a certain phrase, smile or posture.

The quietness and beauty of nature.
As long as I can see and hear these things,
the fog will roll in around my heart.

Letting go
means knowing the fog
will lift eventually, and appreciating
the clear times of my days and nights,
being grateful for the looking back -
at the chance to remember -

because letting go doesn't mean forgetting.
